That. Was. Big.
Smithwick’s Irish Ale has announced an exciting new music experience they’re calling the ‘Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series’. And it kicked off in style last night, with a mesmerizing gig at Dublin’s ‘Whelan’s music venue.’
What is it?
Basically, Smithwick’s is on a mission to celebrate two of the most iconic movie soundtracks of all time.
The tunes featured in Francis Coppola’s 1979 cult classic ‘Apocalypse Now’ and Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 epic ‘Pulp Ficton’ have etched themselves not only into the fabric of the film, but into the fabric of pop-culture itself.
Take for example the opening sequence of Apocalypse Now, and try imaging it without that historic slow guitar riff from The Doors – ‘This is the end’. It can’t be done… The intense imagery of the scene and the juxtaposition of the slow melancholy sound just work perfectly together.
The music behind a film can be the difference between a great movie and a cult classic, with the soundtracks living on long after the credits have rolled! Without a doubt, the soundtrack from Apocalypse Now continues to echo nearly 40-years after its release, just as Pulp Fiction’s mix-tape lives beyond that iconic dance scene.
So, that’s why Smithwick’s has teamed up with two of Ireland’s most sought after groups, electric extroadinairres Le Galaxie, and Jess Kav’s agro-soul group BARQ.
Together, they’re breathing new life into these epic soundtracks with fresh modern interpretations, in a host of live music gigs taking place all across the country.
