Biodegradable coffee cups grown from fruit are being created by a design company in New York.
The reusable cups are made from gourds, which is a fruit from the pumpkin family.
Creme, a Brooklyn based architecture and design company, is growing the gourds inside a cup or flask shaped mould.
They take about six weeks to grow, and can hold the same amount of liquid as a medium sized disposable coffee cup.
The clever idea was inspired by the growing plastic waste problem.
According to thejournal.ie, a study by Recycling List Ireland found that 528,000 coffee cups are thrown away in Ireland every day - that works out 22,000 an hour, or 366 every minute.
