Never a dull day in Mayo
We're all used to seeing boats of the Irish coast but one vessel has raised a few eyebrows in County Mayo.
Ballyglass Coast Guard were called to remove the mysterious vessel from the water after it was spotted washed ashore near Cross Beach on the west coast over the weekend.
It now seems like the boat drifted to our shores all the way from Canada.
Made mostly out of wood, the craft had a note inside from its builder, reading "I, Rick Small, donate this structure to a homeless youth to give them a better life that Newfoundlanders choose not to do! No rent, no mortgage, no hydro".
Canadian Rick Small, gained attention last year when he crossed 7,000 kilometers across Canada on a solar powered bike.
The Mayo discovery was also kitted with solar panels as well as appliances like a kettle.
The boat was spotted in Portugal Cove-St Philip's in Newfoundland in September, meaning it traveled over 3,000 kilometres in less than three months.
It's reported that Mr Small told a neighbour that he planned to sail across the Atlantic but it's unclear if he actually attempted the journey.
One Facebook user has commented: "This Vessel Was Built in Foxtrap Newfoundland by a man who had plans to take it across the Atlantic. I spoke with him personally, and hope to all hope he didn't actually make the journey, and let her drift."
The boat has now been taken ashore in Mayo, while attempts are made to solve the mystery.
