All hail the great Uncle Colm.
You can now see one of Derry Girls' most underrated characters in person, the wonderful Uncle Colm.
Uncle Colm is played by Kevin McAleer, a stand-up comedian who first grabbed national attention by starring in Nighthawks.
Nighthawks was an RTE production from 1988-1992 and Kevin McAleer was applauded for his rambling but amusing monologues to camera:
'Simple Country Boy'
McAleer was so convincing in delivering his lines that RTE received complaints about him.
The complainants were concerned about the exploitation of a "simple country boy":
Uncle Colm On Tour
Fast forward to 2019 and McAleer is adored for the same deadpan lines that he was delivering in the early nineties. However, this time is as the guise of Uncle Colm in Derry Girls.
He's currently touring his latest one-man comedy show entitled 'Kevin McAleer-Guru':
