Students are being forced to turn to charity to help pay their bills.

600 students had to ask St Vincent de Paul for help last year.

2 million euro was handed out to help them pay for accommodation, fees and travel.

Maeve Richardson from the Union of Students in Ireland says it’s only going to get worse.

“It is a large number, but it doesn’t come as a shock to the Union of Students in Ireland at all.”

“We’ve seen such a rise in the cost of living and general costs of coming to education whether that’s the level of our college fees or the cost of accommodation or the cost of commuting, if you’re having to calculate around that.”
