Fraudsters claim over €115 million from scamming people on fake websites.
There has been seventeen searches carried out in Dublin, Meath and Louth in relation to a global police operation targeting millions of scam calls.
Gardaí have arrested six people as part of the investigation into a spoofing website that’s estimated to have conned people out of over €115 million.
Fraudsters had been using the site to make calls or send texts that appear to be from genuine sources including banks and government departments.
Cybersecurity expert, Brian Honan from BH Consulting, says cyber crime is increasing:
“This operation by law enforcement agencies throughout the world demonstrates that cyber criminals operate as an international network and use various tools to try and fool people out of their money.”
