This'll put a smile on your face!

Students in the US have invented a baby stroller especially designed for parents in wheelchairs.

The special 'wheelchair stroller' is allowing one father to take his newborn out in the world.

37-year-old Jeremy King was left with impaired mobility after an operation to remove a brain tumour in 2017.

And naturally, he had been worried about how he could help once his wife, Chelsie, gave birth.

Chelsie is a middle school theatre instructor and recruited some students to come up with a solution.

The students in Maryland, US, put their heads together, with the help of innovation and technology lab coordinator, Matt Zigler.

They designed the WheeStroll: a child seat which attaches to a wheelchair.

And as you can see, it's working a treat:

Jermey was delighted he was able to take his son, Phoenix, out only a few weeks after his birth.

“I was emotional and elated because something like this really increases independence with my child."

"It allows us as a family to have more freedom of movement," he said.

Chelsie also said the independence the invention gave her husband was "a gift".

“It has given us the ability to do something simple like take a walk as a family; something that a lot of families don’t have to think twice about," she said.

The students have been praised for their efforts and won a few awards for their innovation.

The school said they were extremely proud of the students for their "passion, empathy, and innovation".

So, how did they do it?

Well, here's an explainer by creator Matt himself:

The students carried out interviews with the family and the fire department, who provide infant car seat installation training.

The school team bought or 3D printed all the parts, and they even borrowed a wheelchair from the school nurse as a prototype.
