The research was carried out by the Men's Development Network.

One in five men admit to using pornography once a day, according to interim results of a male attitudes survey.

The Men's Development Network has released the figures ahead of its New Conversations conference on Thursday.

One respondent said they struggle to tell if a partner is enjoying sexual activity because it's not as exaggerated as performers.

The respondent said it leaves them feeling insecure and guilty.

Network CEO Sean Cooke says its clear porn is having an effect on men's relationships with themselves and others.

"Overusage also kind of creates a lack of empathy."

"There's been significant other studies that have indicated that a lot of usage of pornography drives men to be less empathetic.."

"... and less aware and less conscious of what it means to be in an intimate relationship."

It comes as the Department of Education are set to overhaul the current SPHE cycle.

Online safety and awareness around pornography are some of the topics set to be part of the new curriculum.
