The Consumers Association of Ireland says it is a cause of concern that the cost of home heating oil is not reducing at the same rate as petrol and diesel.

Motorists have seen the cost of petrol and diesel fall to just under two euro per litre in recent weeks as supply on the international market increases.

However the cost of home heating oil has not moved downwards at the same rate.

Dermot Jewell of the Consumers Association of Ireland says it's time for the Government to do something urgent about price transparency and profiteering:

"There has to be responsibility and transparency in pricing. It's coming across that where international prices are reducing, why it should follow that national rates will fall, it's not happening."

"It's certainly not happening at anything approaching the speed at which it needs to reduce, to benefit those that rely on home heating oil".
