Could the all-time record temperature tumble today?

As Ireland gears up for what could potentially be a temperature record breaking day, Met Éireann has forecast some relief on the way for those struggling with the heat.

After the hottest June day on record since 1976, forecasters are expecting records to tumble again today, and potentially the all-time high record of 33.3 degrees.

"There is a definite possibility that record will be broken," Met Eireann forecaster Joanna Donnelly told RTÉ.

"We'll wait and see. Either way, it will be a sunny day. Temperatures elsewhere will be widely over 30 degrees and between about 25 and 28 degrees in eastern and southern coastal counties."

A Status Yellow high temperature weather warning remains in place until 9pm tonight.

Cool change

However, there will be some relief for anyone struggling with the heat.

Tomorrow will see something of a cool change with the chance of showers along the west coast, while temperatures are expected to gradually decline into next week.

Although it will remain mostly dry with hazy sunshine.

The warm weather looks set to continue early into next week, however, it won't be as hot as this week.
