It's the second double tragedy in Ireland's waterways within a week
Two men aged in their 40's and 50's have died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Lough Derg, in separate incidents yesterday afternoon.
The two tragedy's happened within an hour and two miles of one another.
Emergency services were called to the first incident near Terryglass, Co Tipperary at 5.53pm.
Valentia Coastguard received reports of a male swimmer in difficulty and a body was recovered a short time later, Independent.ie reports.
While the second alarm was raised just after 6pm with reports of a swimmer in difficulty near Portumna in Co Galway.
Paramedics and members of the Lough Derg RNLI crew rushed to the scene, and recovered the body of a man in his 40s from the water just before 10pm at Cappafallagh.
Unfortunately he too was announced dead at the scene. His body was removed to Portiuncula Hospital for a post-mortem.
It's the second drowning tragedy to happen in Ireland within a week.
Last Thursday friends Shay Moloney and Jack Kenneally, both 15, died at a lake at a disused quarry outside Ennis, Co Clare.
