Police have confirmed they have arrested two men in their twenties as part of their investigations into a suspected car bomb explosion in Derry city last night.
They say the vehicle used in the incident was hijacked in the city a short time before the blast happened on Bishop Street at 8.10pm.
Politicians both north and south of the border have condemned the attack.
Tánaiste and Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney has said there is "no place and no justification for such acts of terror".
I utterly condemn the car bomb terrorist attack in Derry this evening. There is no place and no justification possible for such acts of terror, which seek to drag Northern Ireland back to violence and conflict. @RTENewsNow https://t.co/sKUaXGCx5b

DUP leader Arlene Foster has described it as a "pointless act of terror" that "only hurts the people of the city".
This pointless act of terror must be condemned in the strongest terms. Only hurts the people of the City.
Perpetrated by people with no regard for life.
Grateful to our emergency services for their swift actions which helped ensure there have been no fatalities or injuries. https://t.co/IMJ7Dn9rAa— Arlene Foster (@DUPleader) January 19, 2019
