Tributes pour in for victim of Bray shooting; Reports Pete Taylor WAS targeted

The masked shooter fatally shot Father and Grandfather Bobby Messett, when he answered the door at Bray Boxing Club

Fifty-Year old man Bobby Messett died instantly yesterday when he was shot in the head by a masked gunman intent on killing Olympic boxing trainer Pete Taylor, according to reports from the Irish Mirror.

The horrific incident occurred at 7am yesterday morning at Bray Boxing Club in Co. Wicklow - during a morning 'Boot Camp.'

A source told the Mirror that Mr Taylor was putting on music to begin the session when there was a knock on the door.

Bobby Messett, 50, answered and was reportedly gunned down by the masked killer.

Another man, Ian Britton, 35 and 57-year-old Mr Taylor were also hit.

Mr Taylor, who is the father of Olympic Boxing  Champion Katie Taylor, was struck in the arm and the bullet travelled into his chest.

He was saved by paramedics and is recovering in St Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin, where he is awaiting surgery.

While Mr Britton suffered at least three gunshot wounds to the legs.

The gunman then fled in a Volkswagen Caddy van with Northern Ireland plates and remains at large.

''Heartbroken''

It's been revealed that the victim of the horrible attack, Mr Messett was a father and grandfather, was a well-known fitness enthusiast.

Tributes have begun to pour in for the man, including a heartbreaking post from Mr Messett’s friend Colm Mulligan Glencormac United:

He wrote: “Words here cannot convey how heartbroken everyone of us is at The Glens to lose one the most dedicated clubmen anyone could have.

“Our prayers and hearts really go out to Natalie, Jackie, Gary, Bobby Jnr, Demi-leigh, Alex, brothers Jimmy and Glen, sister Paula, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended families at this sad time.”

Fianna Fail justice spokesman Jim O’Callaghan said: “I urge anyone with information to bring it to the attention of the gardai immediately. I also wish those injured a full and quick recovery.”
