There's also weather warnings for parts of Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Monaghan, Cavan, Leitrim, and Louth.

Ireland will face torrential rain and gale force winds this week, according to Met Eireann.

The national forecaster is predicting a vortex from the Atlantic Ocean to unleash extremely unsettled conditions over the next few days.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror a Met Eireann forecaster said: "It's impossible to predict the forecast after a couple of weeks from now but the weather will be very unsettled over the next week.

"It won't be as cold as last week, but there'll be heavy downpours on Thursday and Friday, especially in the eastern parts of Ireland."

Here's what we can expect over the next few days:

Wednesday will be cold and wet for the east of the country, with top temperatures around 10C.

Met Eireann said: "Rain in the southeast will spread across Leinster and Ulster tomorrow morning.

"There is a risk of heavy rain for a time on east coasts. Elsewhere there will be occasional showers.''

Thursday will be cloudy with the off spell of sunshine, but torrential rain is expected to fall in Leinster and Ulster heading into Friday.

While flooding is likely on Friday, as gale force winds come in off the Atlantic.

"A spell of very wet and very windy weather is expected to sweep in off the Atlantic during the morning, accompanied by strong to gale force and gusty southeast winds. Some spot flooding is likely,'' Met Eireann said.

Yellow warning.

The UK Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for six counties for this Friday.

The warning kicks off at 9am and continues until 9pm, with heavy rain and strong winds expected.

The warning is for all of Derry, Antrim, Down, Armagh, Fermanagh, and Tyrone, as well as parts of Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Monaghan, Cavan, Leitrim, and Louth.

Meanwhile Met Éireann have said the rest of the country should expect a windy day with rain becoming widespread and heavy during the morning and clearing to scattered showers by evening.
