The 12-Thai boys who were trapped in a cave for two weeks have spoken to global media about their ordeal
The Twelve Thai Footballers aged between 11 and 16 who spent two weeks trapped in a cave along with their 25-year old coach before being dramatically rescued, have broken their silence.
In a global press conference held today, all 12-boys, their coach and a host of Thai officials - including a psychologist (who monitored the stress levels of the boys) answered questions from waiting media.
The boys have shed light on a host of pivotal moments during the ordeal, including when they first discovered rescuers were coming to save them.
Adun Samon, the boy who first heard the rescuwers coming said he told his teammates to be quiet when he heard the voices:
“I started to listen and it became reality, the conversation. I asked ... Mig to go down, because Mig was
holding the torch. “Quickly, go down to have a look, otherwise they might go past us.”
“I greeted them, I said “hello.” I heard “hello.” ... Someone was raising their head above the water and said, “Hello.”
I went in there and the noise asked, “Hello, is anyone there?”
When they came out of the water, I was surprised. I didn’t know what to talk to them. I said “Hello”, or something like that.
When they said “hello” to me, I said “hello” back. It was so magnificent. I didn’t know questions to ask. It was - it took me a while before I could answer them, when they asked me how I was. I answered them, I was so surprised. The person asked me how many of us there were. I said “13.”
They answered, “Brilliant and the person was very happy knowing there was 13 of us.”
Heartwarming gesture
Meanwhile, their appearance before the media came after a heartwarming gesture from the hospital where they have been recovering.
All 12-of them posed for a somber photo, holding an image of Thai Navy SEAL diver Saman Kunan, 38, who died while sending them essential supplies in the sprawling underwater cave.
In a further mark of respect the boys’ will enter the monkhood to pay tribute to Mr Saman.
Officials said after the media conference they will finally return to their families. They have all been given the all-clear to leave hospital.
