The crash claimed the life of a Father-of-Seven

Two teens remain in a serious condition in Cork University Hospital following the head on smash in Co.Cork yesterday that claimed the life of a Father-of-Seven.

Patrick McMahon of Churchtown, Co Cork, was tragically killed while driving to the beach with his daughter Vanessa and her boyfriend Thomas when the horror head-on collison with a tractor occurred.

Thomas was due to begin his Leaving Certificate today but instead, he is now fighting for his life.

The driver of the tractor, a man aged in his late 20s, was not injured in the crash.

Reports say it took emergency services almost two hours to free the teenagers from the van due to the extent of the injuries.

They were then airlifted to the GAA pitch in Bishopstown before being taken to CUH by ambulance.

It emerged that McMahon's partner, Gillian McAllen, was following behind the van in a car and came across the scene moments after the crash.

He will be laid to rest on at Christ King Church, Turners Cross, in Cork tomorrow and is survived by his partner and his seven children, Jasmine, Vanessa (Nessa), Frank, Sinead, Holly, Joy and Saoirse.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Local Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O'Shea said: "The McMahons are a large, well-known family from the Churchtown area.

"Churchtown is a very strong tight-knit community and I am sure the community will rally around the family."
