Should soccer follow rugby's lead?
Following the departure of Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane from the Republic of Ireland coaching ranks, soccer in Ireland is embarking upon a crucial part of it's history.
And with the FAI search for a new manager underway, Sinn Féin TD Pearse Doherty has called for further change.
Doherty has again renewed calls for an all-Ireland soccer team.
Speaking on Thursday, Doherty said, "We already have all-island teams that demonstrate that we can achieve great success when we work on an all-island basis.
"The departure of Martin O’Neill as manager of the Ireland soccer team yesterday has been a major talking point. The past year has not been an easy one for Irish soccer fans and I want to say that Irish teams are stronger and better when they are all-Ireland teams."
Doherty gave the example of all-Ireland teams in sports such as rugby, cricket and hockey, saying "The fantastic result of the Irish rugby team against New Zealand at the weekend is just one example."
Northern Ireland have also had their struggles of late having finished bottom of their UEFA Nations League group without a single point.
