Is the traditional leaving cert holiday a bad idea?

A psychologist is urging parents to re-think allowing their kids to go on a Leaving Cert holiday.

Niamh Hannan, believes the traditional post-exam trip can cause teenagers to feel stressed and depressed.

And she has issued a warning today that parents should reconsider if they let their children go away when they finish school.

The psychologist also claimed some teens feel overwhelmed after exams and holidays without parental supervision can be a disaster.

Dr Hannan says parents could be doing their kids a favour by refusing to let them go:

"If your teenager is very vulnerable and they want you to make the decision and take it away from them it can be very helpful for teenagers to say 'my parents are very strict and they're not allowing me'."

Do you think students should be free to let loose after finishing the leaving cert?

Or should they wait until they completely de-stress from their hectic exam schedule?
