Some school's may still not be accessible on Monday.
Schools in the worst hit rural areas of the country are at risk of remaining closed for a third consecutive day.
Despite the worst of the blizzard conditions having passed, further snow and low temperatures are predicted, with flooding now a major concern.
As a result, it's thought some secondary roads may still be impassable come Monday, meaning access to schools in some areas may be restricted.
Speaking to independant.ie, Séamus Mulconry the general secretary of the Catholic Primary School Management Association (CPSMA), said: ”I don’t think we will really know until Sunday what the outlook is for Monday and whether a principal can make an informed call.''
All schools, third level education facilities and colleges were directed to close by the Department of Education on Thursday and Friday.
However, it's thought each individual school will be able to make their own decision on whether to open or not, come Monday.
