One of the biggest Rainbow parties in Europe will be kicking off in Dublin at noon today!

More than 60 floats and over 30,000 people are expected to take part in today's Pride parade, which will leave St Stephen's Green for Smithfield at 2pm.

The theme of this year's festival is 'We are Family' and festival organiser Eddie McGuinness says the parade is a celebration of the rich diversity of Dublin's LGBT+ community.

This year's parade route will follow the 2017 parade and start in Stephens Green South heading towards Kevin Street. It will head south towards the river, crossing Fr. Matthew Bridge and going up Church Street before turning into Smithfield.

Former President Mary McAleese is among those taking part in the parade, she'll be marching alongside her husband and son.

Speaking ahead of her participation today, Mrs McAleese hit out at the Catholic Church describing their teachings on homosexuality as evil.

She went on to described the treatment of LGBTI people as "another dark chapter" in the history of the Catholic Church.
