This visit marks the first papal visit to Ireland in almost 40 years.

Pope Francis landed in Dublin Airport a short time ago for a two day trip to celebrate The World Meeting of Families.

From Dublin Airport he's expected to travel to Aras an Uachtarain to meet President Michael D Higgins before heading to Dublin Castle where he will make his first public speech.

Later this afternoon, 100 thousand people are expected to line this streets when Pope Francis travels through the city centre on his way to the Capuchin day centre to meet the homeless.

While this evening the Pope will join more than 70 thousand others for the Festival of Families concert in Croke Park.

Maeve Lewis from One In Four says although his visit is short - she hopes he addresses the issue of clerical sex abuse;

"The Pope could do far worse than sit down with our Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, and look at the really rigorous child safeguarding practices he's put in place in this dioceses and this would make a very good template for the rest of the Catholic world."

**Clerical abuse survivors who are distressed during the Pope's visit can call a freephone number to get help.

Connect counselling's providing the professional service on 1800 477 477.

It's open from until Sunday from 6pm to 10pm.
