The launch of the vessel formerly known as Boaty McBoatface has taken place.
The R-R-S Sir David Attenborough polar ship was officially named after the wildlife broadcaster - who pushed the green button that sent it into the River Mersey.
Sir David says it will enable British scientists to continue their crucial work in both the Arctic and Antarctic for decades to come.
The 92-year-old broadcaster described the decision to name the ship after him as the “greatest of honours”.
The name Boaty McBoatface was originally chosen for the ship in a public poll, but the choice was overruled in favour of honouring Attenborough.
