It's not known how many people were on board at the time.

A pilot is now under investigation after he fell asleep while operating an aircraft, subsequently missing his runway by 29 miles.

Flight tracking from November 8th shows the nine-seater aircraft missed the runway of King Island Airport in Tasmania, Australia, at 6.21am local time.

The trip was one of seven flights flown that day by the aircraft as it transported people from the mainland to the tiny island off the country’s south coast.

The plane was turned around and eventually landed safely at its destination but the pilot is now under investigation.

It's not known how many people were on board at the time.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) said they are investigating a case of ‘pilot incapacitation’.

Which is described by Skybrary as 'The inability of a pilot, who is part of the operating crew, to carry out their normal duties because of the onset, during flight, of the effects of physiological factors.'
