It mean's George's species is now extinct.
The loneliest snail in the world has passed away, meaning his species is now extinct.
Known as Lonely George, the Hawaiian land snail was the last of his species.
George was named after 'Lonesome George' the Pinta Island tortoise made famous by a David Attenborough segment, who was also the last of his kind.
Scientists had endeavoured for over a decade to find a mate for Lonely George in order to keep his species alive, but were unsuccessful.
Nature magazine National Geographic said George left his shell on new year's day.
So next time you raise a glass, be sure you give a nod to poor old Lonely George.
