As the tragic death of 18-year-old Cameron Reilly continues to shock the student's local community of Dunleer, Co Louth, a friend who was with the murdered teen just hours before his death has come forward and said: “It could have been any of us.”

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Adam Power told of disbelief that still engulfs the area after Cameron's body was discovered in a field on Saturday morning.

“He’s not a person that would go out looking for a fight. He’d be the one to keep away from it.

“It hasn’t actually fully hit me yet that it’s after happening. It could have been any one of us.

“It’s just mad that we live around the corner and this happened over there. It’s so rare.”

Adam also added the 18-year-old may have been assaulted in a spur-of-the-moment attack.

Gardai are currently searching for a group of youths who were socialising with Cameron shortly before he died.

In what could be a significant breakthrough into the investigation into the tragedy, detectives are searching for Cameron's missing phone, which could hold vital information into the matter.
