Fifty-Eight Palestinian protesters lost their lives in the violence
Simon Coveney, the Republic of Ireland's minister for foreign affairs, has met with the Israeli ambassador to express his outrage was the deadliest day of violence in Gaza since 2014 - The BBC is reporting.
Fifty-Eight Palestinian protesters were killed on Monday, when Israeli troops opened fire.
Tánaiste Coveney also called on Israel to show restraint in the hours and days ahead.
The meeting between Mr Coveney and Israeli ambassador Zeev Bokar took place between 08:00 and O8:30 on Tuesday.
Ireland has also called for a UN-lead independent international investigation into the deaths.
A spokesperson for Mr Coveney also later released a statement on his behalf: "Our mission in Ramallah reports that emergency responders in Gaza and the Strips' health services are overwhelmed with the level of casualties.
"The health system was already facing major challenges due to lack of equipment and essential medicines."
The statement said Ireland was "very disturbed" by reports of injuries suffered by health workers.
Funerals for the 58-people killed will be held in Gaza.
Condemned
Meanwhile, calls have been made for the Government to expel the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland Ze'ev Boker.
Sinn Féin said that it would be the only acceptable response from Ireland, after the “death and destruction” witnessed in the region.
