It looks like your morning caffeine kick may be beneficial for your health
In brilliant news for caffeine junkies, new research suggests drinking as many as three cups of coffee a day may be good for your heart.
While even drinking as many as six doesn’t raise the risk of suffering from heart problems.
A study debunking long-held public perceptions revolving around coffee and caffeine, has found three daily cups can lower the risk of heart palpitations by 13 percent, and even reduce the chances of a heart attack or a stroke.
How? You may be wondering.
Both tea and coffee are full of healthy antioxidants, meaning they help protect against common heart rhythm diseases.
The research comes from the American College of Cardiology, and involved more than 340,000 people.
Basically, contrary common belief, caffeine doesn’t make the heart pump harder or tire out faster.
Cardiologist Dr Peter Kistler, who led the new study and is director of the Alfred Hospital and Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute said this was a “public perception.”
He added: “Our extensive review of the medical literature suggests this is not the case.”
In fact, the research his team compiled actually showed that caffeine protected against both atrial fibrillation (AF) and ventricular arrhythmia (VA), problems.
“Caffeinated beverages such as coffee and tea may have long term anti-arrhythmic properties mediated by antioxidant effects and antagonism of adenosine,'' Dr Kistler said.
Finally some good news about something we all love! Coffee addicts, don't feel so bad about your addiction.
