The insurance industry has two weeks to respond to Government requests about insuring people living in flood-prone areas.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny wants companies to reflect on the current level of insurance provided in areas where flood protection works have taken place, while he also wants them to look at their approach to removable flood defences.
The Taoiseach, Tánaiste Joan Burton and other ministers met insurance industry representatives today to discuss refusals to provide cover for areas where flood defences have been installed.
A levy on all insurance policies is one of the options being considered but the Government does not favour such a move.
