It's taken 10 months to get David home
The family of a young Irish man who sadly drowned in a Canadian lake ten months ago, have confirmed his remains are to be brought back to Ireland.
David Gavin, a talented footballer from Co. Mayo was reported missing in June 2017 after jumping from a bridge in Kinbasket Lake Reservoir in British Columbia, and getting into trouble.
However due to water levels over the following months, the search for David couldn't recommence until April of this year. His body was then discovered on April 28th.
Both his parents and Girlfriend Ciara were present at the lake when the discovery was made.
A GoFundMe page was set up in order to assist the family in bringing David home, which has seen more than $305,754 Canadian dollars raised.
In a statement to the page, the devastated yet grateful family said the following:
“It is with great relief that we can inform you that David Gavin’s body was found on Saturday the 28th of April.
Arrangements are currently being made to bring David home to Ireland.
This would not have been possible without all of your kindness and generosity.
Through your donations we were able to get resources and services that made the search for David successful.
Thank you all again for this opportunity to bring David home, we will be eternally grateful.
Angela, Micheal, Aoife and Ciara.''
