Funeral details announced for young Longford man killed in New York

The funeral details for a young Longford man, who was killed in a suspected on-punch-attack in New York, have been announced by his family.

Daniel John McGee (21), from Drumlish in Co Longford fell victim to the attack outside of the Gaslight Bar in Queens on November 22 last.

His devastated parents Don and Colleen, as well as his siblings, said in a statement on RIP.ie that he will repose at his family's home this evening between 5pm and 9pm, also between 2pm and 5pm tomorrow, and again from 6pm to 8pm.

His funeral mass will be held at St Mary's Church in Drumlish on Thursday afternoon.

''True gentleman.''

Mr McGee has been remembered as a popular young man, who was a talented GAA and soccer player.

His former soccer club, Gaels United, said in a statement that they were "shocked" to hear of his passing and they cancelled all club games over the weekend as a mark of respect to his family.

"We are all shocked and sad to hear of the untimely death of Danny McGee. Danny played with our club for many years and we are shocked to hear of his passing," a spokesperson for the club said.

"He was a true gentleman, always very friendly with a great smile and sense of humour. He played soccer with great passion and was proud to captain the Longford Kennedy cup team in 2011."
