Instant message regret is something we've all experienced.
It appears that instant message regret or IMR as we'll call it, may soon be a thing of the past!
And we couldn't be happier.
Facebook has introduced a much-needed ability to save yourself from humiliating disaster with the ability to ‘unsend’ messages sent over the hugely popular Messenger.
Whatsapp and Gmail have already rolled out a feature which lets you hide the shame of IMR. Now you’ll be able to do the same using Messenger, which is used by more than one billion people.
‘The pros are that users want to be in control… and if you make a mistake you can correct it,’ Facebook’s head of Messenger Stan Chudnovsky told TechCrunch.
'We need to make sure we don’t open up any new venues for bullying. We need to make sure people aren’t sending you bad messages and then removing them because if you report them and the messages aren’t there we can’t do anything.’
After you delete your shameful message, the person who received it will see a gravestone icon instead of your original text.
Sadly we'll have to wait just a little longer...
Unfortunately we'll have to wait a little bit longer to use the amazing new feature here, as it's only being rolled out in Poland, Bolivia, Colombia and Lithuania from today on Messenger for iOS and Android – and will roll out across the world soon afterwards.
The new feature will allow you to ‘remove for everyone’ in a conversation, which means it’s deleted so no-one can see it, or ‘remove for you’, which allows to save yourself from the cringe effect of a particularly egregious message.
All you’ll need to do is select a message and the ‘remove’ option will pop up and you can then choose which kind of unsend you’d prefer.
