The duo will reappear in court on March 6.

Two men from Co. Donegal have appeared in court in Sydney, Australia, charged with murder.

Christopher McLaughlin, 24, and Nathan Kelly, 21, appeared via separate video links and are both charged with the murder of 66-year-old Paul Tavelardis.

Mr. Tavelardis was found with serious injuries on a roadside on the 29 December, and died in hospital on Monday morning.

The defendants will remain in custody after magistrate Louise McManus formally refused them bail.

They are due to appear in court again on 6 March.

He may have gone 'walkabout'.

Meanwhile the family of Mr Tavelardis have paid tribute to the grandfather-of-nine who was battling leukemia.

His son Bradley told The Daily Telegraph newspaper that he believes his dad had gone "walkabout" and may have been sleeping in his car at the time of the attack.

He said: "He loved to travel, that was his indigenous side, he loved to go, as we say, 'walkabout'.

"Every two or three years he would save enough money, buy a sedan and go out into the desert and sleep in the back of his car."
