The hundreds of Seáns, Gráinnes and Oisíns in the country might have something to say about this.
Do you have a fada in your name?
Well, the State data watchdog has ruled that you don't have an "absolute right" to have your name spelled correctly with fadas.
According to the Irish Independent, a patient at University Hospital Galway complained to the Data Protection Commission after doctors refused to include the fada on his name.
Staff told the 51-year-old that the hospital's computer software doesn't allow for fadas.
The man, who is being treated for cancer, alleged that this was in breach of strict EU rules.
However, after an eight-month investigation into the complaint, the Data Protection Commission has ruled an individual's right to have their records rectified "is not an absolute right" and "depends on the circumstances in each individual case".
It's not the first time fadas have hit the headlines this year.
In January, the National Transport Authority was criticised for not including fadas on people's Leap cards.
It blamed "technical limitations".
