New research shows people are spending more this December.
New research by Bank of Ireland shows spending in the run up to Christmas has increased.
Spending during the first two weeks of December was up by 8% on last year.
It's expected to be a very busy day for retailers across the country with thousands of people scrabbling to pick up some last minute gifts.
Meanwhile, there are thousands of people travelling home for the holidays today.
Bus Eireann and Dublin Bus are operating a Sunday Service to facilitate those going home for Christmas. Their journeys will continue until around 9pm tonight.
Irish Rail, DART and the Luas lines are expected to be very busy today too. They will remain in service until 8 and 9pm.
Airports across the country will see thousands land home to celebrate the holidays with over 200,000 estimated to have arrived in the last week.
