Ireland is making 150 Visas available for those fleeing Afghanistan.
The US President says his country's mission in Afghanistan was never meant to have been nation-building.
Our current military mission will be short in time and focused in its objectives:
Get our people and our allies to safety as quickly as possible.
And once we have completed this mission, we will conclude our military withdrawal. We will end America’s longest war.

In an address last night, Joe Biden said he "stands squarely" behind his decision to withdraw after 20 years of conflict.
He acknowledged the Afghan government collapsed quicker than expected, but accused local leaders of 'giving up'.
I know my decision on Afghanistan will be criticized. But I would rather take all that criticism than pass this responsibility on to yet another president.
It’s the right one for our people, for the brave servicemembers who risk their lives serving our nation, and for America.

Meanwhile, up to 150 humanitarian visas are being made available by government for Afghans, under the Irish Refugee Protection Programme.
The visas will mean they won't have to enter the direct provision system upon arriving here.
