The attack happened last night

UP to 20-youths wearing balaclavas caused havoc on a Dublin train last night, after they stormed on board brandishing knives and blocks of wood at around 10:30pm.

It's reported the gang spray painted the train, threatened passengers and caused around €4,000 worth of damage in the process.

A number of the youths used pieces of wood to jam the doors of the train at Clongriffin Train Station in north Dublin, preventing the train from moving during the rampage.

An eyewitness said:  “There was about 20 of them and they were all wearing balaclavas.  They had knives and sticks and started fighting each other. It looked like two gangs who were fighting over who’d spray paint the train - it was unbelievable and terrifying.

“It was the worst I’ve ever seen, incredible.”

Another said:  “A few of us wrestled one of the lads.  He had a 2x4 (piece of wood). We didn’t know they had knives as well though.”

While some were reportedly too traumatised to speak about the incident.

Irish Rail has described the event as an “unprecedented graffitti attack.” Adding, “This was aggressive and threatening criminal activity.”
