The doctor and nurse neglected to correctly identify the woman before performing the abortion on her, police say.
A doctor and nurse in South Korea are under investigation after an an abortion was performed on the wrong woman, as staff failed to check her identity.
The woman, who was six weeks pregnant, arrived at the clinic in Seoul, South Korea, expecting an injection of nutritional supplements on August 7, The Sun reported.
Yonhap News Agency reported that the Vietnamese woman had only found out she was pregnant that same day.
But hospital staff apparently mixed up her records, so she was instead injected with anaesthesia as they failed to confirm her identity.
The woman believed she had received the right injection and did not question the doctor when he proceeded to perform the abortion.
The police investigation was launched Monday into the doctor and nurse in charge, and the case will be sent to the prosecutor’s office, Gangeseo police told CNN.
“The doctor and nurse have acknowledged their fault,” a police official told the outlet.
“They are now being accused of negligence resulting in bodily harm.”
