Sick pay will rise from 3 to 5 days a year on January 1st.
It's part of a long term government commitment to increase paid sick leave to 10 days a year by 2026.
Junior Employment Minister Neale Richmond says workers shouldn't be worried about being sick.
'No one should have to be afraid for financial reasons to take sick leave so that's why we're increasing the amount of benefit that people will receive so that they can be in the safe position to know that if they are sick they can't be forced into work or there will be financial cover. This is particularly for the lower earner workers where they often have to make that decision, can I afford to be ill?'
