It's thought a bolt struck an outside tap, which is connected to the sink inside.
A woman in Co Offaly was struck by lightning while making a cup of coffee at her kitchen sink.
The incident took place at a house in the Crinkle area near Birr on Tuesday in the midst of a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning from Met Éireann.
It is believed that the lightning struck a tap outside the home, travelled into the sink, and struck the woman as she made a cup of coffee.
53-year-old Caroline Blake was taken to her local doctor who then sent her to Tullamore Hospital.
Doctors at the Midland Regional Hospital told her it was lucky she had been wearing rubber soled shoes, as they prevented serious injury.

Speaking to RTÉ's News At One, Ms Blake said she has two burns, a small one on her wrist and one on her stomach, but other than that she feels fine.
After surviving the lightening strike Ms Blake said:
"Everyone keeps telling me to do the lottery."
