The transport minister has been warned there's a risk of a terrorist attack as a result
There are claims security screening at Dublin Airport is not fit for purpose.
As a result, there's a risk of a possible terrorist attack.
The Transport Minister, Eamon Ryan, has been warned of the security issues.
A whistleblower made the claim and it has been seen by the Irish Independent.
The Dublin Airport Authority says it will cooperate with any investigation but is stressing it's only an allegation from a protected disclosure at this point.
The paper's Political Correspondent, Gabija Gataveckaite, outlines the claims:
"The disclosure states, the minister is allowing a roll of the dice each morning and he's hoping nothing happens.
"Lapse in those standards of training ha sled to below par screening at Dublin Airport. There are vulnerabilities that could possibly be exploited."
Retired Air Corps Lieutenant Colonel, Kevin Byrne, says the claims are unexpected.
He added, "Well I'm a bit surprised. The only good factor I'd take from it, is the fact it dates back to last June, so that's a long time ago - 9 months ago.
"If all or any of the parties know what's going on they would have put in steps to counter what might be seen as complaints or objections or other elements that don't meet the required standards."
