Harsh Sharia laws have been enforced.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has announced revised travel advice for Brunei.
It's after new laws were introduced in the south-east Asian country - including death by stoning for adultery and gay sex, and amputation of hands and feet for thieves.
The Department has strongly recommend that Irish citizens "familiarise themselves with and observe local law and customs before visiting Brunei."
The laws have sparked international outrage, with celebrities calling for a boycott of Brunei-owned luxury hotels in protest.
Campaigner Peter Tatchell's charity is joining calls from George Clooney and Elton John to boycott venues like The Dorchester in London.
But lawyer Luke Gittos thinks stronger action is needed to encourage the country to change its laws:
"Boycotting a few hotels or criticising its government for undermining human rights legislation, which is inconsistently enforced across the globe, is not going to do it."
