The United Nations has adopted a resolution to call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.

The resolution is not legally binding, but it's highly symbolic.

It came as US President Joe Biden earlier warned "Israel was starting to lose support" over the conflict.

The US voted against the resolution, along with Israel, and eight other countries -  the UK was one of 23 countries which abstained.

Ireland voted in favour, with the vast majority of the 193 members supporting it.

Dennis Francis, President of the General Assembly, says laws are being broken left, right and centre.

'What we are seeing is an onslaught on civilians the breakdown of humanitarian systems and profound disrespect for both international law and international humanitarian law.'
