According to Sky News, Ukraine and Russia account for 80% of the world's supply of sunflower oil.
The ongoing invasion from Russia has cause major disruption to imports.
The price of sunflower oil is also set to rise as supply struggles to meet demand.
Because of this, a number of Irish and UK companies will be using alternatives such as rapeseed oil in the coming weeks and months, which may alter the flavour slightly.
The ingredient will only become more scarce from the summer as as Ukrainian farmers may struggle to grow and export the crop.
Ukrainian farmers should be sowing the seeds now for harvest in October and November.
As this won't happen we will the season which could impact supply for 12-18 months.
Many companies have not had time to change the label, which caused the UK Food Standards Agency to issue a warning.
The FSA added that the risk of this substitute is "very low" and allergies to rapeseed oil are rare.
Other products containing sunflower oil include mayonnaise, bread, and biscuits.
