The number has exceeded 19,000.

Families who've pledged accommodation for Ukraine refugees in Ireland will be contacted from Monday.

The Irish Red Cross will start to get in touch at the start of the week.

Almost 20,000 pledges of accommodation for refugees have been received.

The centres, in Dublin, Cork and Limerick cities, will help them obtain PPS numbers, access income supports and other State services.

The Secretary General of the Irish Red Cross Liam O'Dwyer says the response has exceeded expectations.

"At this stage we've over 19,000 pledges of accommodation, which is an astonishing number," O'Dwyer said

Government officials will be in place at Shannon Airport to assist Ukrainians on their arrival in Ireland, the Irish Independent reports.

While officials from the departments of Justice and Social Protection will provide people with PPS numbers.

The online portal for applying to provide accommodation is registerofpledges.redcross.ie.

From there, you can indicate if you wish to share your property, or if you wish to pledge a vacant property.

The Red Cross has a helpline on 01 6424600, or can be contacted by email at [email protected].
