Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced the news yesterday
American XL bully dogs have been deemed a public safety hazard and danger after a steady rise in attacks in the UK.
The breed are a larger version of the pitbull terrier weighing between 20-60kg.
Two incidents in the UK involved an 11 year old girl needing stitches and a man mauled to death.
It’s clear the American XL Bully dog is a danger to our communities.
I’ve ordered urgent work to define and ban this breed so we can end these violent attacks and keep people safe. pic.twitter.com/Qlxwme2UPQ

Because of these incidents and more, Rishi Sunak confirmed his plans to ban the breed by the end of the year on X.
"The American XL Bully Dog is a danger to our communities, particularly our children," he said in a statement.
"I share the nation's horror at the recent videos we've all seen.
"Yesterday we saw another suspected XL Bully Dog attack, which has tragically led to a fatality.
"It's clear this is not about a handful of badly trained dogs.
"It's a pattern of behaviour and it cannot go on.
But Animal welfare campaigner Ira Moss isn't convinced that'll work:
"All that is going to happen is there will be huge abandonment. There will be dogs left in parks and that's when there's accidents"
