A single-vehicle collision has claimed the lives of two young teenagers in Galway.
It happened at approximately 5:45am this morning in the Ballyfruit area of Headford, County Galway.
The vehicle had four occupants on-board, two boys and two girls, all of whom were young teenagers.
One boy was pronounced dead at the scene, and one girl was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later.
The other occupants remain in University Hospital Galway for treatment on their injuries.
Local diversions
The L6127 at Glennagarraun, Ballyfruit in Headford is currently closed, and local diversions are in place.
The services of Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested and a technical examination of the scene is currently underway.
Garda investigation
Gardaí in Galway continue to investigate this collision, and a Garda Family Liaison Officers (FLOs) will formally be appointed.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage from between 5:30am and 6am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
