According to the BBC, the cartoon film based on the hit Nintendo game, made $377m globally in its first five days.
The movie has surpassed the previous record of $358m held by Frozen 2.
In The Super Mario Bros Movie, Chris Pratt voices the Italian plumber Mario, with Anya-Taylor Joy playing Princess Peach.
Jack Black, who plays Bowser, has launched a music video to his ballad 'Peaches' which features in the movie.
