The ISPCA has issued an appeal for home-owners to house unwanted dogs.

It says hundreds of dogs that were admitted to the charity for temporary care during the pandemic have not been reclaimed.

It's resulted in hundreds of kennels having to be rented to provide accommodation at excessive cost.

Dr. Cyril Sullivan of the ISPCA, says any help at all from the public would be greatly appreciated.

He added, "The animal lovers of Ireland, we're calling on them.

"If they can take an animal in, if they can do it permanently, that would be fantastic or if they could take one in temporarily or foster one to take the pressure off the ISPCA and to allow us to get a balance back in our system so we can manage the level of animals coming in."

And if you can't do any of that, you can make a contribution to the ISPCA to help them pay for their rented kennelling.
