The incident happened at around 4pm today
A teenager has been arrested follwing a break-in at Leinster House this afternoon.
The boy managed to get access to government buildings and it is understood some damage was caused.
The 16 year old boy was arrested by officers and is now being questioned in a south dublin station.
Gardai say the 'incident of trespass' happened around 4pm and investigations are ongoing.
Cathaoirleach of the Seanad, Senator Jerry Buttimer told RTÉ the break-in is "a very serious breach of security that must be investigated".
Senator Buttimer said that the matter will be discussed at the next meeting of the Oireachtas Commission.
"Thankfully, the gardaí apprehended the intruder," said Mr Buttimer, adding it is "concerning the person was able to gain access" to the house.
