Support packages for some 650 laid-off employees at Tara Mines have been agreed to following late-night talks at the Workplace Relations Commission.
Unions have also secured a guarantee that workers will return to work on their existing terms and conditions.
According to The Independent there will be an increase in the number of workers that will continue to carry out “care and maintenance” work at the zinc mine in Navan following the closure under new proposals.
The owners, Boliden, is due to temporarily suspend operations at the County Meath plant this coming Friday.
The WRC proposals will be brought to SIPTU members on Monday.
Divisional Organiser Adrian Kane says there are still doubts around the re-opening of the mines.
